The Internet

The Internet. You’re using it, I’m using it, billions of others are using it. Many people say that the internet is evil and condones so many bad things, but there is so much more to it. I like to think of myself as a reasonably well travelled internet explorer (get it?), I’ve seen the extremities of what can be found on the internet, both in people and objects. The Internet after all is just what we want, a massive base of knowledge.

I see the internet as more of a window than an actual house. The knowledge and events contained on the internet have generally always existed and happened, it’s just that the internet has allowed us to see and share the contents of said house. I have seen the good in the internet’s scope, people helping others, marching against atrocities and even simple things like calling out bad parkers or petty thieves.

I’ve also seen the bad. Racism, dirt bags with brains and even people dying on camera, there isn’t much that I haven’t seen and no, I don’t want to see anything worse you sick people. But for this bad there is always at least some good to fight it. My firm stance is that humanity is generally getting better and as homophobia, racism, sexism, etc. becomes more and more outlawed, people are fighting with more force in greater numbers.

The Internet is where thoughts and beliefs are put out to the public eye. This is where the grey area will always arise as we are only human and our views will certainly clash with another’s. This is however insignificant to the overall benefit.

My theory is that it won’t be too long before we look upon the internet with pride. It also won’t be too long till there will be a badge reading “humanities greatest invention” on every internet server around the world.

Some people hate the internet. To me, it’s the only damn thing that let’s us see what humanity is really like, both in knowledge and stupidity.

Until next time, this is Theo signing off…
